Once a dog arrives at DoDMWDVS for referral, veterinarians will be updated via electronic and telephonic means. However, due to staff engagement within the hospital and the busy schedule of referring veterinarians, phone calls are often missed leading to voice or paper messages that may not be noticed in a timely manner. As such, we have created a site in AKO where referring providers may read case updates.

Updates are to be made by DoDMWDVS staff not less than once weekly. Folder and discussion forums will be created for each referred dog in AKO and the referring veterinarian will be given access to these via AKO notification. Referring providers must be sure to look for “New Notifications” near the upper right portion of the AKO main page. The discussion will show written updates by a clinician and will allow the referring veterinarian to respond, ask for more clarification, ask for a phone call (giving best time and number), etc. The folder will contain lab results and imaging when deemed appropriate.
