Both the DoD and the TSA have established dog breeding programs at Lackland. The DoD breeds Belgian Malinois
and the TSA breeds mostly Labradors, but also a few Vizslas
(and sometimes Vizsladors!).
The Air Force is in charge of the DoD program and TSA
administers its own. Program managers are responsible for deciding which dogs to breed and tracking health and performance of resulting offspring in an effort to determine best bloodlines for further breeding.

The DoDMWDVS provides veterinary support to both breeding programs including breeding soundness examinations of all potential breeding dogs, reproduction lab services (vaginal cytology, hormone assays, semen collection/evaluation/storage, artificial insemination), ultrasound examinations of pregnant bitches, caesarian section (if needed) as well as general and routine care and maintenance of new puppies to include exams, deworming, and vaccinations.
