Helping Parents to Create Strong & Healthy Military Families
Operation Kid Fit (OKF) is a positive parenting program that teaches caregivers skills to improve their children’s nutrition and increase physical activity. OKF is:
LEARN POSITIVE WAYS TO GET YOUR KID HEALTHY!
OKF can help parents learn how to:
Provide healthy food choices
Increase their child's physical activity
Use incentives to help their child make better health related choices
OKF has already kicked off at participating installations!
Sessions will be offered now through January 2015 for up to 40 families at each installation.
OKF is a 12-week commitment that includes:
Ten 90-minute small group sessions
Two 20-minute personalized phone calls with the OKF facilitator
Session times and locations based on the needs of participating families
OKF Session Topics include:
- Preparing for change
- Understanding nutrition and physical activity
Using rewards to promote healthy behavior
Modifying recipes to incorporate more healthy choices
Limiting sedentary activity
Understanding food labels
Playing active games
Providing healthy meals and snacks
Using effective strategies to manage problem behavior
