All substances are poisons; there is none which is not a poison. It is the dose that differentiates a poison from a remedy. Paracelsus
This observation by a 16th century scientist makes it clear that there are no simple answers in toxicology. But finding the dose at which a compound is toxic is only one step on the road to assessing its risks.
In collaboration with a host of DoD, government, private and international entities, the US Army Public Health Command provides data about the toxicity of military-unique and military-relevant compounds and the risks they pose to Soldiers, civilians and the environment.
The USAPHC performs basic and applied research using animal models, genetic and cellular toxicology, genomics and computer modeling.
