NEWSFLASH: OSHA recently updated a non-mandatory appendix in 29 CFR 1910.1450, Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories.
The updated appendix includes the contents of the latest National Academy of Sciences publication entitled, ‘‘Prudent Practices in the Laboratory: Handling and Management of Chemical Hazards,’’ 2011 edition.
All revisions are minor and non-substantive.

A rapid action revision of
DA PAM 385-69, SAFETY STANDARDS FOR MICROBIOLOGICAL AND BIOMEDICAL LABORATORIES
was completed on 8 February 2013.
The update prescribes the technical safety requirements for the use, handling, transportation, transfer, storage, and disposal of infectious agents and toxins rated at biosafety level 2 and above used in microbiological activities in permanent or temporary clinical laboratories, biomedical and biological research settings, microbiology teaching laboratories, and veterinary reference laboratories.
