Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Richard Silvia enlisted in the U.S. Army on 07 January 1992, as a Dental Specialist. CSM Silvia’s assignments include, USA DENTAC, Dental Specialist, Fort Campbell Kentucky; USA DENTAC, Preventive Dentistry Specialist, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; USA DENTAC, Training NCO and Clinic NCOIC, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Bravo Company, 187th Medical Battalion, Drill Sergeant and Senior Drill Sergeant, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; HHC, 1st Medical Brigade, Brigade Intelligence Medical Sergeant, Fort Hood, TX; 581st Medical Company (AS); 61st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 1st Medical Brigade, First Sergeant, Fort Hood, TX; HHC, 1st Medical Brigade, Rear Provisional Chief Operations Sergeant, Fort Hood, TX; USASMA, Student, Fort Bliss, TX, and returned to Fort Hood, TX as the Brigade Chief Clinical NCO and most recently the Brigade Chief Operations Sergeant.

CSM Silvia's military and civilian education includes the Dental Specialist Course (68E), 330-X2 Preventive Dentistry Course (commandant’s list), Air Assault School, Master Fitness Course, Equal Opportunity Leader’s Course, Unit Prevention Leader’s Course, Mobile Retention Training Team Course,

Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Level II, Warrior Leader’s Course (commandant’s list), Advanced Leader’s Course, Senior Leader’s Course (commandant’s list), First Sergeant’s Course (commandant’s list), Drill Sergeant Course (commandant’s list and leadership award) and the United States Army Sergeant’s Major Academy (commandant’s list). He has earned an Associate’s Degree from Central Texas College, a Bachelor’s Degree from Thomas A. Edison State College and a Master’s Degree from Excelsior College all in Liberal Studies with a focus on leadership.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), the Good Conduct Medal (7th AWD), National Defense Service Medal (with Bronze Star), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 3), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation CSM Silvia’s badges include the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. He is also a recipient of the Order of Military Medical Merit (O2M3).
