Description
This course details the provisions governing the transport of infectious substances, select agents, biological products, diagnostic specimens, and their wastes. Regulatory requirements include International regulatory requirements as well as U.S. domestic regulations --- the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR), the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Code, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), the Department of Defense (DoD) Transport Regulations, International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDGC), United States Postal Service (USPS) Domestic and International Mail Manuals, World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Federal Regulations, import and export standards, specific packaging requirements for biological products per U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) regulations, and other regulatory requirements. Faculty use group discussions and practical exercises to reinforce learning. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences and knowledge with the group. A certification examination is administered at the end of the course.
