This is a BASIC level course. | 2.25 hrs | 1. Assess and select options to eliminate or mitigate exposure using the hierarchy of controls and recognized scientific principles, literature, standards, and design and performance criteria. 2. Control exposures using engineering design principles, calculations, regulations and standards for ventilation, isolation, enclosure, absorption, shielding, and damping to control exposures. | 1. This online module supports the industrial hygiene engineering controls competency by explaining various types of exhaust hoods, perform calculations to determine capture velocity based on hood type, perform calculations to determine hood entry losses based onhood type; demonstrating how to apply related calculations; and testing the equipment used to conduct appropriate ventilationmeasurements needed to evaluate a worker’s exposure. This course is one in a five course series for this competency. A Public Health Center professional engineer from program 55 Industrial Hygiene Field Services provided instruction.
