Description

Charting the Course to a Healthier Force follows the health promotion program framework specified in AR 600-63.

Content includes: health promotion program planning, goal setting, implementation, use of a business plan and communication tools, and evaluation.  Attendees will gain knowledge and skills through lecture, discussion, and practical exercises.  The course will be conducted in three phases: pre-course self-study module and pre-test, 12 DCS core sessions and post-test, and individual projects.

Course Objective are: 1) Identify and describe the key aspects of Army Health Promotion as described in Army Regulation 600-63 2) Describe the vision, mission, goals and objectives of Army health promotion programs 3) Explain the five functional areas in developing effective evidence-based health promotion programs 4) Develop the core facets of a health promotion program or initiative based on a case study to demonstrate comprehension of key aspects of a health promotion program.

Participation: There is no registration fee for this course.  The course is limited to 80 participants.  Charting the Course to a Healthier Force core course module is offered weekly for 12 weeks via Defense Collaboration Services (DCS) with a corresponding telephonic call-in. For your convenience, there will be two sessions conducted, per unit, each week.  Each unit will be offered on Tuesday at 0900 HRS Eastern time and repeated Thursday at 1700 HRS Eastern time. This will allow you flexibility in your scheduling and/or a chance to participate in that segment again if you wish.

Continuing Education Units Credits/Course Completion Requirements : Up to 24 CECH credits for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) pending approval; up to 21 CPEUs for registered dietitians/dietetic techs pending approval; up to 24 CNEs approved for nurses and up to 15.25 CMEs through MEDCOM Continuing Medical Education Division for physicians.  Participants will be required to complete all tests, attend all sessions and complete the post-course assignment with a competency level of 80% before receiving a certificate of completion and corresponding CEUs.  Session attendance is monitored and participants will not be permitted to enter a session after the first 15 minutes. Missed sessions can be approved for extenuating circumstances; TDY, mission requirements, or family emergencies only, not for vacation. Please contact the course coordinators, if there are extenuating circumstances.

Prerequisites

You must be a DoD civilian or military Service member. 

Participants must be registered and familiarized with using Defense Collaboration Services (DCS).

You must have a milBook account. Go to https://www.milsuite.mil/ to register on milBook. All materials will be posted to milBook, so a working understanding is required.

After registering for the course, request  to  join the "Charting the Course to a Healthier Force"  group and access pre-course self-study materials and pre-test.  The pre-test should be completed prior to the beginning of the first DCS core session.
