The Health Effects Division (HEF) performs basic and applied research in toxicology and environmental biology. The program focuses on conducting toxicological research pertinent to effects from environmental exposures. HEF strives to develop safe exposure criteria for military-unique and military-relevant substances. The program also develops rapid, accurate, cost-effective methods for determining the effects of toxic hazards to environmental receptors and their transport through environmental media. HEF provides extensive consultative services and subject matter experts to other DA and DOD components and other Federal agencies.
