Performance Triad Information for Spouses

Army Spouses are the heart of the Army Family, which is why your personal health and wellbeing are especially important. As an Army Spouse your day is filled with many responsibilities, both inside and outside of the home. Caring for your family often limits the time you have available to work on your own health and wellness goals. Eating healthy meals, being physically active throughout the day, and getting quality sleep at night can help you manage your busy lifestyle and inspire your family to adopt healthy behaviors. The Performance Triad contains practical information and resources on how to fit sleep, activity, and nutrition into your busy schedule.

Getting quality sleep each night helps to manage stress, improve your mood, and recharge your energy levels after a long day. Improving your quality of sleep begins with creating a healthy sleep environment and a consistent bed and wake up schedule. Strive to get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night to wake up feeling refreshed and focused for the day ahead.

Physical activity is more than just “exercise” or “working out”- it’s living an active lifestyle. Whether it’s walking the dog, doing yard work, or playing with your kids, regular movement throughout the day inspires positive health outcomes over time.

Research shows that family meals promote healthier eating and give families time to talk, listen, and build relationships. Aim to improve eating habits for you and your family by controlling your portions, making healthy food decisions, preparing meals ahead of time, and snacking smart.
