 Air Quality Forecast

issued 05/19/2022

Ground-level ozone readings on this Thursday afternoon are on track to peak in code GREEN although an isolated monitor or two may peak in code YELLOW. On Friday, high pressure building in from the western Atlantic will produce another very warm and sunny day over the Palmetto State, similar to today. Thus, meteorological factors affecting ozone production will be rather constant from Thursday to Friday. The main exception is that upstream source areas will be a bit cleaner for Friday, which should lead to a general slight downturn in ozone production vs. Thursday. Therefore, code GREEN conditions are expected again on Friday in most zones, with low code YELLOW conditions expected in the Upstate.
