 Air Quality Forecast

issued 11/24/2021

Nov 24 – 29 The high pressure system stabilizes over the weekend and through next week providing more sunny, clear, dry, and warm days with clear and chilly nights. Southernmost areas of Monterey County can expect daytime highs in the low to mid 70s whereas the rest of the District will have daytime highs of mid 60s to low 70s. For overnight lows South Monterey and San Benito Counties can expect a FROST ADVISORY Wednesday night followed by overnight lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Coastal and Northern Inland areas can expect overnight lows of low to high 40s. High pressure systems can keep smoke from residential wood burning devices or agricultural burns close the ground in our breathing space elevating the PM2.5 level especially in the late afternoon, overnight and extending into late morning. The most compromised communities are areas such as San Lorenzo Valley or other narrow, canyon or valley areas where smoke can get trapped and wood burning device use is prevalent. In these areas we could see AQIs for PM 2.5 in the MODERATE range otherwise everywhere else AQIs for PM2.5, PM10 and OZONE are expected to be GOOD category.
