The Entomological Sciences Branch maintains the expertise to address vector-borne, emerging diseases that potentially impact force health and readiness.


Our Services

  • Vector and Reservoir surveillance:  We can assist you in setting up surveillance programs for insects and ticks capable of transmitting disease, as well as assess pathogen levels in deer and small mammal populations on military installations.

  • Identification services:  We can identify submitted ticks, insects, rodents, reptiles, birds, nuisance plants, or any other unknown specimen.

  • Pathogen diagnostics:  We can coordinate the testing of insects, ticks, animal blood, and tissue, as well as environmental samples for a wide range of disease causing organisms.

  • ESEO Assistance visits:  We can provide specialized, on-site support to orient newly assigned ESEOs as well as provide specialized field training for preventive medicine staff to address region-specific pest problems.

  • Installation medical entomology and public health support:  We will review/create documents and program activities to bring your pest management programs in compliance with regulatory requirements and sound integrated pest management practices.

  • Health risk communication:  We can provide briefings and other educational material on operational and institutional risk management of vector-borne and zoonotic disease.

  • Deployment training:  We can provide training on entomological issues of preventive medicine for units preparing to deploy.

  • Special consultations and tailored training: We have subject matter experts that can perform quick-response investigations and training on entomology related procedures, practices, or perceived issues.
